Chicagoland HVAC Rebates & Incentives for 2026 (ComEd & Nicor)

Updated October 2026

If you’re replacing a furnace, air conditioner or heat pump this year, the incentive picture has changed. The federal tax credits that many homeowners used in 2023–2025 have ended, but utility rebates from ComEd and Nicor Gas are still offered in 2026. Here’s what Chicagoland and southwest-suburban homeowners should know.

Federal HVAC tax credits ended after 2025

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (Section 25C) and the Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) were cut short by a 2025 federal law.

• 25C (heat pumps, high-efficiency furnaces and central AC, among others) isn’t available for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025.
• 25D (geothermal heat pumps, solar and similar) isn’t available for installations completed after December 31, 2025.

What that means for you: equipment installed in 2026 doesn’t qualify for these federal credits. If your system was installed and running by December 31, 2025, you may still be able to claim the credit on your 2025 tax return. Ask your tax preparer. We’re HVAC contractors, not tax advisors.

ComEd heat pump rebates

If ComEd is your electric utility, you may qualify for instant discounts on qualifying heat pumps, including ducted heat pumps and ductless mini-split heat pumps. The discounts are applied at the time of purchase when you buy from a participating contractor.

Windy City HVAC Repair is an enrolled ComEd participating contractor. We can help you check whether the system you’re considering qualifies.

Good to know:

• Equipment has to meet ComEd’s efficiency requirements. Eligibility is decided by ComEd.
• Self-installed equipment doesn’t qualify.
• Rebates are subject to change, and the program may end at any time.

Nicor Gas furnace rebates

Nicor Gas serves most of the west and southwest suburbs, including Bolingbrook, Naperville, Romeoville, Lemont, Homer Glen, Plainfield and Joliet. It has offered rebates on qualifying high-efficiency gas furnaces, with larger rebates for higher-efficiency (AFUE) models and a bonus when a smart thermostat is installed with the furnace.

Good to know:

• Furnaces must meet Nicor’s minimum efficiency rating, be installed by a professional contractor, and generally replace an existing gas furnace.
• Nicor sets application deadlines. Keep your itemized invoice.
• Rebates are subject to change, and the program may end at any time.

Peoples Gas & North Shore Gas customers

If you’re in Chicago or the north suburbs and get your gas from Peoples Gas or North Shore Gas, check those utilities’ current rebate offerings directly before you buy.

Is a rebate worth chasing?

A rebate is a nice bonus, but it shouldn’t drive the decision. The right system is the one sized to your home. We do a load calculation before recommending equipment, install all brands (we carry Rheem and Durastar), haul away the old unit, and offer flexible financing to spread out the cost.
